Hey there, I’m tired of apologizing for you.

I jumped in on a conversation over at Facebook supporting voting against amendment one and posted a bit about it yesterday.

It was the screen cap I referred to and posted below the fold.

“John” on that thread responded directly to me and wrote:

Jeremy, re-read my post buddy. Under no circumstances do I think anyone should be belittled. I truly believe in showing love towards everyone. Though I don’t have many gay friends I do have family members and employees that are and I love and respect them. What I posted was that we shouldn’t confuse love with tolerance. You may love someone who is addicted to drugs so does that mean drugs are ok for them? You may love someone who views child pornography but you wouldn’t want them doing that would you?

I believe in Romans 3:23 as well as I believe in 1 Corinthians 6:18.

Did you read that? We’re buddies!

John truly believes in showing love towards everyone. He admittedly doesn’t have gay friends, but he realizes they exist. He doesn’t confuse “love” with “tolerance.”

He equates homosexuality as being addicted to drugs.

And then he bible thumped me with 1 Corinthians 6:18 which says:

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.

I love quoting the bible! It’s the sovereign word of the unchanging, all-mighty and perfect GOD. His love is unchanging from “old” to “new” testaments. Don’t let those kids tell you that Jesus and God are different in the first 2/3rds of the bible. NOOOOOO! That’s taking God and Jesus — one and the same magical dude — out of context.

Let’s quote the BIBLE!!!

1 Timothy 2 is clearer on women keeping their mouths shut than on homosexuality:

I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.

11 A woman[a] should learn in quietness and full submission. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man;[b] she must be quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15 But women[c] will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

1 Corinthians supports slavery, but hopes that if you can get out of it, you should.

21 Were you a slave when you were called? Don’t let it trouble you—although if you can gain your freedom, do so. 22 For the one who was a slave when called to faith in the Lord is the Lord’s freed person; similarly, the one who was free when called is Christ’s slave.

And that sweet, loving Jesus God guy will come when you least expect it and he’ll beat the ever-loving shit out of you:

46 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.

47 “The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows.

Luke  12:46-47

Not to mention all those dirty, filthy old testament god verses that show just how beautiful god’s character is.

How about not listening to priests? Kill them!

Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death.  Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12)

And, since John knows of some homos in his community, how come he’s not following Jesus’ command to kill them!

“If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives.”  (Leviticus 20:13)

I wonder if John has kids and if they ever hit him or cursed him, did he kill them?

Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death.  (Exodus 21:15)

If one curses his father or mother, his lamp will go out at the coming of darkness.  (Proverbs 20:20)

All who curse their father or mother must be put to death.  They are guilty of a capital offense.  (Leviticus 20:9 )

Did John ever commit adultery or think about sex with a woman other than his wife? Kill him!

If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife, both the man and the woman must be put to death.  (Leviticus 20:10)

Does John go kill muslims and Buddhists in his community? He should!

Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed.  (Exodus 22:19)

I’m not sure how John has avoided buying a plane ticket to Chicago, knocking on my door and killing me? Do you?

They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.  (2 Chronicles 15:12-13)

God LOVES killing kids and women. And John was made in God’s image. Should we all hope that John loves killing too?

The glory of Israel will fly away like a bird, for your children will die at birth or perish in the womb or never even be conceived.  Even if your children do survive to grow up, I will take them from you.  It will be a terrible day when I turn away and leave you alone.  I have watched Israel become as beautiful and pleasant as Tyre.  But now Israel will bring out her children to be slaughtered.”  O LORD, what should I request for your people?  I will ask for wombs that don’t give birth and breasts that give no milk.  The LORD says, “All their wickedness began at Gilgal; there I began to hate them.  I will drive them from my land because of their evil actions.  I will love them no more because all their leaders are rebels.  The people of Israel are stricken.  Their roots are dried up; they will bear no more fruit.  And if they give birth, I will slaughter their beloved children.”  (Hosea 9:11-16)

“Then I heard the LORD say to the other men, “Follow him through the city and kill everyone whose forehead is not marked.  Show no mercy; have no pity!  Kill them all – old and young, girls and women and little children.  But do not touch anyone with the mark.  Begin your task right here at the Temple.”  So they began by killing the seventy leaders.  “Defile the Temple!” the LORD commanded.  ”Fill its courtyards with the bodies of those you kill!  Go!”  So they went throughout the city and did as they were told.” (Ezekiel 9:5-7)

And I’m just getting started.

The truth is, the morality of the biblical God would get most people in this country jailed.

So start following the bible, Christ lovers. We think you deserve it.

There’s a zillion reasons why we ignore so much of your “holy” book.

Homosexuality and gay marriage is one more easy peasy nice and easy ways you can follow in your own silly, ignorant footsteps.

I respect your opinion – it is what you feel and that’s perfectly fine – but I would just like to ask: have you ever actually studied the Bible as a whole? You apparently know EVERYTHING about what is wrong with it. To thoroughly reject something, you first must know about it. I would have found your argument much more convincing if you could have said, “I spent time studying this and these are the problems I found.” The Bible is not trail mix – you can’t just pick out pieces that serve your purpose. You must study it and take it as a whole and then make your decision based on your discoveries
Look at it this way. Would you believe a random Joe off the street that claims cancer treatment is ineffective? NO of course not! He did not spend years studying medicine, and therefore cannot truly know about medicine or its effects!
This is where I personally feel like you are misled. You claim to know everything about the Bible and all it’s “problems” and yet you most likely have not even spent time trying to understand it – even if it is just to reject it.
So, please, before you go claiming to know everything (although I’m SURE you do), try to learn a little about them first.
But, hey, what do I know? I’m just a silly, ignorant, closed-minded sixteen year old girl, right? xx

I get responses like yours very often. And most people don’t return.

I hope you do, and I don’t waste more time than I already have with you.

Your initial reaction is erroneous as it is ignorant. Perhaps you had an emotional response that led you to respond.

Should you have read my “about” page, most of your questions would have been answered. I was in fact a strong evangelical Christian for 25 years. I had the best Christian education from a top elementary through high school and then onto college.

These are things you could have found for yourself.

Which makes me wonder, how much research have you put into the bible that you are defending? How much do you know, by your own efforts and not by the pulpit, about your faith and religious tradition?

My knowledge of the bible from a pro-Christian standpoint outshines yours by at least 9 years. Likely more, as I studied it through a rigorous collegiate experience. I still have many of the passages memorized or at least the reference memorized. This post was written from insider knowledge.

      Am I misled?

That’s a good question. The likelihood is yes. I admit that there are too many things I do not know for sure. I don’t pretend to know the answers. The referenced scripture above are solid, in context references. I cherrypicked verses, but could have gathered many more.

Plain and simple, the message of the bible is inferior, suspect, preposterous, incredibly pejorative and simply, awful.

      Are you misled?

      You answered that question.

I’m just a silly, ignorant, closed-minded sixteen year old girl, right? xx

      Yes, yes. Yes, you are.

I would love to talk to you more about it, but it sounds like you’re not ready yet.

Furthermore, when you’re finished stewing over my response above, I’d love to see you respond to the actual posting, its content, its argument. Try rebutting the argument instead of assuming that my character and knowledge are inferior.
