Everyone knows that a president is virtually a puppet guided by the team behind him (or her … someday there’s bound to be a her).
So when Mitt Romney’s team scheduled a stop at a Miami juice shop owned by a known and convicted cocaine smuggler, you have to wonder about that team of puppeteers.
Romney appeared at El Palacio de los Jugos, which is owned by Reinaldo Bermudez. Court records show that Bermudez pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute cocaine in 1999 and served three years in federal prison.
Appearing with Romney was Sen. Marco Rubio. Both men handed out juices to an excited crowd after making brief remarks. Romney was filming a campaign ad at the juice shop, aides said.
The Romney campaign didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Phone calls placed by The Associated Press to the juice shop weren’t answered.
Bermudez told the Miami New Times that the Secret Service vetted everything about him when the Romney campaign asked to use his fresh fruit and vegetable stand and that they knew about his criminal record.
Maybe the campaign managers can focus their attention on the idea that Romney feels “Christlike” grace toward convicted felons. It’s not as if Bermudez can vote in the next election or anything.
I was thinking about the concept of grace again yesterday. You know, the idea that Christian grace is big enough for the evilest sinner. If Hitler loved Jesus, he too will be in heaven. Because God forgives all who knock.
But yet it’s the conservative party who are the most resistant against allocating their own monies or the monies distributed by government organizations toward the slummiest of the slummy.
It’s sad really.
Salvation is only for the afterlife. You, dear alcoholic, drug addicted, lazy-ass should burn here on earth … because we know (we know!) that there is a place after you die for you to live the life you never had here.
We love to hate you, they sing, whilst holding hands and trying on their best pitiful faces.
