Ann Coulter is a cunt

June 11, 2011

I’m not quite sure that “cunt” is strong enough for how I feel about the above clip.

Coulter is a shithole for degrading adoptees and homosexuals. If she were claiming to lead thought in the group I was associated with, I would throw her out with the Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh trash. She’s the third horseman in a group of ridiculous buffoonery. What an absolute embarrassment to good and decent humanity these people are.

In case your curious, this is the interview that is being referenced above.

These thoughts are from the group who oppose abortion.

How much cognitive dissonance must you have to be a part of the republican party?

If you have an unwanted child, abort him or her with destructive language.

That’s peachy cool!

COMMENTARY: Fiscally I’m A Right-Wing Nutjob, But On Social Issues I’m Fucking Insanely Liberal

May 28, 2011

From a very reliable source:

The world is a complicated place, and in this day and age, you just can’t expect a person to fall on the same political side of every issue he is confronted with. Things are more nuanced than that, and the average American might think one way about one topic, and a completely different way about another. For instance, when it comes to fiscal issues, I consider myself to be a rabid, foaming-at-the-mouth, right-wing lunatic. But on the social front, I’m a completely out-of-his-mind, wacked-out liberal loon.

It’s all about striking a balance, really.

Take finances. It is my opinion that all taxes whatsoever should be abolished, and that everything relating to money in any way should be privatized, including the minting of coinage. Thus, each American should have his own system of currency and his own bank named after him to maintain that currency, and anyone whose personal currency system fails in the unfettered free market should be left to die bleeding and penniless in the street, with his family crying helplessly at his side. Also, corporations should be able to buy whatever and whomever they want, and at the end of every year the richest and most powerful corporation should be allowed to physically demolish 15 other corporations that it wishes to see destroyed, murdering all of the various employees of said corporations in any way it sees fit. I guess you could say I’m a fucking nutcase conservative when it comes to this kind of stuff, but I do believe it’s an ideology that has its limits.

Christmas Dinner with a Conservative Canadian Dad

January 11, 2011

This is a great watch. Scott Loudoun shot this video at his dinner table and edited it down. It’s conversations with his conservative father. Man, it’s good.

Walking away from church

did charles darwin believe in god?

I saw this article over at The Friendly Atheist this morning. Its byline is:

Organized religion’s increasing identification with conservative politics is a turnoff to more and more young adults. Evangelical Protestantism has been hit hard by this development.

The number of under 30-somethings marking none in terms of their religiosity has grown from a stagnant 7% to 17%. I highly doubt that number will get smaller. From the article in LA Times:

The most rapidly growing religious category today is composed of those Americans who say they have no religious affiliation. While middle-aged and older Americans continue to embrace organized religion, rapidly increasing numbers of young people are rejecting it.

As recently as 1990, all but 7% of Americans claimed a religious affiliation, a figure that had held constant for decades. Today, 17% of Americans say they have no religion, and these new “nones” are very heavily concentrated among Americans who have come of age since 1990. Between 25% and 30% of twentysomethings today say they have no religious affiliation — roughly four times higher than in any previous generation.

So, why this sudden jump in youthful disaffection from organized religion? The surprising answer, according to a mounting body of evidence, is politics. Very few of these new “nones” actually call themselves atheists, and many have rather conventional beliefs about God and theology. But they have been alienated from organized religion by its increasingly conservative politics.

Dan Savage: It gets better

September 24, 2010

Sex advice columnist, journalist, and newspape...

Image via Wikipedia

Dan Savage is a badass. He’s actively helping the cause of homosexuality in the public sphere. I respect and admire that.

This video (below) is a great push for gay rights and for furthering the already changing zeitgeist. It’s the result of lifetimes of torment.

When you hear the part about their adoption, it’s a great moment.

What blows me away is that the torment of hate toward homosexuality still exists. I hate ignorance, and even wondering about whether homosexuality is okay or not is an abomination to academic thought and rational logic.

The pockets of hate happen to be pintpointable to places that idolize conservatism and religion. When I told my brother-in-law about the possibility we’d move to the suburbs, I could see in his face the torment of memories. I said, “You can come out and visit us.”

And he said, “Why would I ever want to visit there?”

His disgust for idiocy blinded him from seeing that he might want to visit his sister and I.

He hated growing up in the suburbs. He sees the city as the opposite of hate. It offers tolerance and acceptance. I’m sure he’ll live his whole damn life in the city, because small-minded dumbasses made his life hell in the outskirts.

One of my biggest and weirdest regrets is how I fell for the ideology that homosexuality is wrong. I hate how those ideas manifested into words, sentences and hate speech in every day conversations. And for what? Because I was taught that kind of behavior was “love.”

My brother-in-law is right; the city is a haven for diversity and acceptance of different ideas. If there were a god, I would thank him or her for the city. Because at least that would show some essence of power.

Anyway, enjoy the video and pass it on if you get a chance.
