I’m not proud of every movie I watch, but I like to pass along information about movies, so I’ll out myself as a bad-movie watcher for the sake of the blog.
I’ll link to the IMDB of each movie, and give only brief descriptions of why I think you should or shouldn’t check them out.
This was a new take on that old, lifestyle switch-a-roo movie formula. I like Jason Bateman and LOVE — to the point of major crush — Leslie Mann. There were some really funny moments, but for the most part, it was one of those movies you put on and hope no one asks you if you saw or not in public.
I kid. No I don’t. Yes, I do.
It’s worth putting on some Saturday when you want something mindless and somewhat funny.
Can you believe I saw this one? I was a little anxious to see Mila Kunis run around in her underpants, and you get a lot of that for 1.5 hours or so. The underwear-clad lovemaking is a little nauseating at times, but it’s somewhat entertaining.
Richard Jenkins (from Six Feet Under) makes the movie hit a little closer to the heart. He plays Justin Timberlake’s senile old man. The performances with Jenna Elfman, Timberlake and Jenkins give the movie a much-needed human element, because you know you’re never, ever going to get a sex-only relationship with two hot people like these, but the inevitability of aging affects us all.
Again, it’s a mindless movie for a laid-back Saturday night in.
Woody Allen is hit or miss with me, but this one was a hit. I loved the references to dead artists and writers. Owen Wilson plays a great version of a tall, blond Woody Allen.
This is a movie I’d watch again. I liked the photography on this one. The pace is solid and the writing was really good.
Probably my least favorite movie lately was Water for Elephants. It had potential. Some of the photography was good. But the length was too long. The predictability factor was well in the red. The movie was generally lackluster for me, and I generally like Reese Witherspoon.
Even if I were locked in a room with nothing else to do but watch this movie, I’d try my damnedest not to watch it.
Want something to pull at your heartstrings and give only a glimmer of how racist America has been in the past, and still is, watch this one.
I’ve said it before, Emma Stone can do no wrong. Her hair and makeup were a little distracting, but that wasn’t her fault. She acts with subtleties and nuances that I don’t know I’ve seen in any other actress, ever, and while one part of my brain wants to reject her, the parts that love her overwhelm me. She can melt my heart and make me laugh very easily.
Ron Howard’s daughter Bryce Dallas plays a great villainous bitch. That is, she makes you hate her like nothing else. Sissy Spacek deserves a mention for her great performance. And I’d be remiss not to call out the very lovely Jessica Chastain who played in Tree of Life (which you MUST see if I haven’t told you already).
