I’m tired of the debate over healthcare. It’s not because I agree with the democrat or republican side. I’m tired, because those people who tell other people what to think make too much money to be influencing average Americans. I looked up how much Rachel Maddow, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, Glenn Beck and Keith Olbermann. They seem to be the heavy hitters on the networks that punish us the most with diametrically opposed sides. Right?
Well, I can’t find Maddow’s. I found something for Olbermann. $7.5 Million/year. Glenn Beck recently signed a $50 million over 5 years. So Beck is coming in at $10 million a year. And Limbaugh makes $14,000 an hour. And O’Reilly is in this high paygrade as well.
Did you read what I just wrote?
$14,000 an hour!*
All of these people are paid entertainment style wages. That puts them in leagues with actors and sports stars. And Oprah Winfrey.
Apart from being good at entertaining and riding comfortably on their partisan side of the fence, what are their qualifications for telling others what to think? To what is their allegiance? Is YOUR best interest theirs when they cash paychecks that are larger than sums used in movies for knocking a person off?
If these faces make more in two hours than the average American makes in a year, what the fuck do they care if you have health insurance? What the fuck do they care if you can’t pay for a prescription? To them, these bills are a drop in the bucket. Their day-to-day lifestyle is measured in metrics so far beyond those that you and I may ever know, and yet they are the people who are repeated, quoted and lead this country as Thought Leaders.
These people won a sort of life lottery. And when they claim to be just like you, they’re blowing smoke up your butt.
To top it all off, the networks that employ them rake in gobs of cash. How is it that they can afford these personalities if they aren’t roping in zillions of dollars? And the companies that advertise on the networks. Do you know how much a production invoice is for one little commercial? Tens of thousands of millions of dollars. People who make $20 to $30 an hour take what they heard on Rachel Maddow or Bill O’Reilly to the water cooler and repeat it like it qualifies as the utmost truth. They buy the products that are advertised on their stations. They buy into it, because that’s what our economy survives on.
I want corporations and networks, people making ungodly sums of money per second, to pay for my healthcare. I want them to pay for my hospital bills. What are they doing with all that money? They tell me what products to buy, what fastfood to eat, what alcohol to consume, what car to crash, but they won’t be there when that shit kills me.
I’m not trying to be conspiracy theorist. I’m trying to point out the obvious.
I think the health and well-being of humanity is far more important than a battery operated battery installer or the flashy, hot sexy people eating at McDonalds. Have you seen the average McD’s customer? They aren’t hot or flashy.
And their hourly wages — next to the Thought Leaders’ in this country — make lint seem like a rich currency.
*I pulled the $14,000 an hour from here.
