Shermer: Why People Believe Invisible Agents Control the World

I enjoyed this article from Michael Shermer. You should read it. Here’s the first paragraph and a link to the rest.

Bon appétit.

  1. “Pore Jud is daid,
    Pore Jud Fry is daid…”

I’ll never live that one down. 😀

    Thanks for fixing the link!

  2. When someone shows me a valid mathematical model of a supernatural being then I’ll be a bit more inclined to equate it with String Theory.

And, anyone who takes the time to do just the tiniest bit of reading would know that there is a continuing discussion among physicists as to its falsifiability, a central tenet of the scientific method.

I’ve yet to see anyone offer a way to test the falsifiability of the supernatural.

    1. Thanks, Steve.

I was looking for a more eloquent response than the one I had written up this morning. I had a response in the works, but it kept resorting to sarcasm and not simple stated facts.

But the essence of my point you captured, and that is that we aren’t stuck with dogma.

Denny-zed likes to say that he’s got proof for god. Which to him, he has proof. He can’t stand that we are okay with that disagreement.

I don’t go to his blog and tell him he’s wrong. But every time he comes here, he negates the message. It’s annoying, but tell him and it’s welcome to ad hom attacks-ville.

It must be frustrating that the only atheists he can he can with his debates convince are his kids.

Hope you’re having a great Friday and are gearing up for a great weekend.
