BBC Newsnight: ThetaHealing, the new Faith Healers

What I don’t get about the splintered, tattered, used-up ideologies of the various sects of Christianity, is how the reasonable ones can share the stage with these unreasonable oddities (like faith healers, pentecostals and Lutherans) . I mean, I only share the stage with Stalin, Pol Pot and Mao Mao Tse Tung Tee Tung Tung Tung.

About the above video:

A group of faith healers who claim they have miracle cures for cancer and HIV have been condemned as “irresponsible, even criminal” by a professor of complementary medicine, following a BBC Newsnight investigation.

The group of healers, collectively known as ThetaHealing, claim that their technique – which focuses on thought and prayer – can teach people to use their natural intuition and “brain wave cycle” to “create instantaneous physical and emotional healing.

  1. First of all, you’re assuming there is such a thing as “reasonable” Xtianity. There is not. You cannot be reasonable when your belief structure is based on faith, the suspension of rational thinking in favor of an unsubstantiated assertion. You can be a decent Xtian, but the belief itself is not reasonable.

There is also no such thing as reasonable complementary and alternative medicine (CAAM) when it comes to disciplines such as homeopathy, acupuncture, acupressure, reiki, naturopathy, and the like. So you see, they have no other option but to share the stage with these Theta healer loons because they sell the same exact thing and that is NOTHING! All these modalities have been proven bunk time and again and as such they all share the same spotlight (and well deserved as far as I’m concerned).

The CAM crowd, whether they like it or not, lend credibility to these clowns and they have no one to blame but themselves.

Snake oil is snake oil no matter how you market it.

    1. Luis the Fifth!

I’ve been wondering where you’ve been. I’m glad I punctured your brain with the inaccurate language above.

Have you let the hipstamatic a day go by the wayside?

I looked for it the other day and I started crying.

      1. I’ve been around.

I have just been insanely green with envy about your beach escapades to post a comment! 😉

My Hipstamatic has been acting erratically. I can upload pics some days and others I can’t upload anything (the app stalls during the upload, no clue as to why). I’m still shooting and I test the app from day to day and when it lets me upload, I try to get in as many as I can.

    2. We could always rebrand Complementary Medicine as Supplementary, Complimentary Alternative Medicines, thus giving us a more apropos acronym.

      Just a thought….
