So this happened in America. Someone help me out, is this 2012?

This is making its rounds. It’s a bumper sticker that has one of those strike outs through the Obama graphic and it reads, “Don’t Re-Nig In 2012.”

When I first saw it, I was all like, “Somebody spelled ‘renege’ wrong. Idiots.”

Then I was like, “Ohhhhhhhh.”

If you thought we were making progress with racism, let this be the pinch that wakes you out of your MLK dream.

This is why it’s really, extremely, severely hard to associate myself with a party that includes pathetic and absurd ignorance like this.

I’ll take cultural liberals every day of the week.

Damn near the coolest CTA conductor out there

If I’m out with Talulah at the right time, this guy toots his train horn and waves almost every day.

And when I’m out on the deck grilling, he always honks and waves when he’s headed back north.

In the back of my mind, I’m thinking, “Crap, the CTA is going to see this and fire him for sticking his head out the window.”

But if they did that, they’d ruin a lot of people’s days. I bet he’s one of those conductors who’s really friendly on the intercom, too. And when you don’t ride the train every day, it’s nice to get a piece of the action.

When they is friendliness like this in the world, it gives hope. And hope is big these days.

Editing my tail off

Usually, I don’t try to complete a wedding so soon after, but I’m having a blast with the shots from the weekend.

I’d like to get the extent of the work out before a big gig next week Wednesday and Thursday.

So if I’m unusually quiet around here, this is why. Above is a shot that I’m liking a lot. It’s a slow shutter. I pummeled them with a strobe and flash and then left the shutter open for about two seconds after.

I remember getting it the night of. I showed Luis said, “Check this out!” He hit me on the back *really hard* and said, “Yes!”

Then we knocked out three shots of Jameson before robbing a bank that was caddy corner to the venue.

All of that is true, I swear.

“Drop of Innocence” – Sitra, Bahrain – Isa Ebrahim – Featured Photographer

Emotion is what makes a successful photograph.  Having the viewer feel something, anything, is the goal of a photographer when he releases the shutter.  This image delivers in spades.  Not to get too political, but I hope by the…

From World Net Daily:

By Jack Minor

GREELEY, Colo. – The sheriff of one of the country’s largest counties says a recent report by the Southern Poverty Law Center listing a major political party in Colorado as a dangerous group has absolutely no credibility and the group is like “the little boy who cried wolf.”

Weld County Sheriff John Cooke said the SPLC just lists groups its officials disagree with politically as “hate groups.”

Weld County has a land area greater than that of Delaware, Rhode Island and the District of Columbia combined. It’s one of few counties in the state that has no long- term debt.

Cooke said his department does not lend any credence to the information in the SPLC reports.

“We don’t pay any attention to it at all. If you’re not left wing, you’re a hate group according to them,” he said.

The SPLC has received funding from billionaire activist George Soros, who has also funded other left-wing groups including the Daily Kos, SEIU,, the Huffington Post and Media Matters.

Last week, the group released its latest intelligence report, titled “The Patriot Movement Explodes.” The listing includes the Tenth Amendment Center, Oath Keepers and WND.

Mark Potek, senior fellow with the SPLC and editor of the report, said the growth of what is described as the radical right was fueled by “economic dislocation, a proliferation of demonizing conspiracy theories, the changing racial makeup of America, and the prospect of four more years under a black president who many on the far right view as an enemy to their country.”

Beware the Ides of March

From a little known play by some guy named Shakespeare:

SCENE II. A public place.

Flourish. Enter CAESAR; ANTONY, for the course; CALPURNIA, PORTIA, DECIUS BRUTUS, CICERO, BRUTUS, CASSIUS, and CASCA; a great crowd following, among them a Soothsayer

Peace, ho! Caesar speaks.

Here, my lord.

Stand you directly in Antonius’ way,

When he doth run his course. Antonius!

Caesar, my lord?

Forget not, in your speed, Antonius,

To touch Calpurnia; for our elders say,

The barren, touched in this holy chase,

Shake off their sterile curse.

I shall remember:

When Caesar says ‘do this,’ it is perform’d.

Set on; and leave no ceremony out.

Ha! who calls?

Bid every noise be still: peace yet again!

Who is it in the press that calls on me?

I hear a tongue, shriller than all the music,

Cry ‘Caesar!’ Speak; Caesar is turn’d to hear.

Beware the ides of March.

What man is that?

A soothsayer bids you beware the ides of March.

Set him before me; let me see his face.

Fellow, come from the throng; look upon Caesar.

What say’st thou to me now? speak once again.

Beware the ides of March.

He is a dreamer; let us leave him: pass.

Sennet. Exeunt all except BRUTUS and CASSIUS

The Reason Rally landed a corporate sponsor

Over at Skeptic Money, Phil Ferguson is reporting that the Reason Rally, held at the end of the month at the same time as Photoshop World, will have a corporate sponsor.

Was that first sentence long enough for you?

And the corporate sponsor is …

Polaris Financial Planning. Info here.

Polaris Financial Planning is committed to supporting the growing secular movement in the United States and donates at least 10% of all revenue to support this cause.

I was hoping to go to both of these events — the Reason Rally and Photoshop World — but I have three jobs that weekend. I wish I could have my cake, eat it, too, and swim in it.

All the big guns, if you can call them that, are going to be there, Lawrence Krauss, Adam Savage, Tim Minchin, Eddie Izzard, Richard Dawkins, James Randi and Jessica Ahlquist, the 17-year-old high schooler who defeated religion in her school — as if I want to see a high schooler speak.

Have we not taken enough notes from religion that have to herald a teenager?

Insert rolled eyes.

For full disclosure, I’m pretty sure Polaris Financial Company is Phil Ferguson’s company, which he should probably mention in his post. But you can’t knock it. The way to grow a company is to promote the hell out of it.
