Hipstamatic racism poster

We are on our way back to Chicago today. I’m letting my brother-in-law drive so can snooze in the back.

I caught some kind of cold and have felt like crap the last two days. Last night I snored so much that Tina kicked me out of bed.

Here’s a shot of an old klan poster we saw yesterday. It reads “Don’t be half a man … Join the Klan!”

If that’s the case, I’ll be fine as a 1/4 man. Maybe even an 1/8th.

Vacation, all I ever wanted

In case you didn’t know, we’re on our annual Carbondale, IL vacation this week.

We drove down yesterday. It’s about a six-hour drive from Chicago.

We stay at my brother-in-law’s husband’s parents’ house. They might not be “married”, but they should be. They’ve been together as long as anybody.

And I mean anybody.

The house has a pool and about 4000 sq ft to run around in. It’s a very hospitable home.

While we’re here, Peeper Dee posts may be sporadic. I’m going to post 205 and 206 together in another post.

I’m trying to think of any awesome stories that’ve happened so far.

On the way down here, we heard two guys on the radio talking about how atheists from the Freedom From Religion Foundation are taking away religious freedoms in this country.

Did you know atheists are hellbent on taking away the religious freedoms that Christians enjoy every day. Things like, church, prayer, worshiping Jesus.

Oh wait, no they’re not. All atheists want is that you do those things on your time in the privacy of your churches. So whether you worship Satan or Yeshua, do what you want when you want. It’s just not something everyone wants to hear about all the damn time.

It’s not atheists who want this, it’s everyone who doesn’t align with your beliefs … whatever they are. This country is made on religious freedom. So be free … frolic in the fields hand-in-hand with your boyfriend Jesus or your girlfriend Mary, mother of Jesus. But since there is no hand on the other end of yours, it’s really not something we all need to know about.

There are churches everywhere down here. Seems like a lot of wasted moolah.

Here are some more pics you can click on.

Hope you’re having a brilliant week. I’ll post when I can this week.

I told you to pop some corn

I went to church today.

Today my wife and I attended a Unitarian Universalist church and we loved it. I am tired of people on both sides of the fence trying to pigeon hole me, trying to ostracize those who differ, trying to make people take sides on the most minute of details. While I differ with this Unitarian church group on issues concerning faith and spirituality I’ll take their acceptance and desire for dialogue any day over the PZ Myers types. I’m out. Fuck them. Fuck them all, that is, until they become human beings who think of the rest of us as human beings.

Like most things John Loftus, I expect this one to be gone soon, too.

Peeper Dee #204

by Tina Louise

Tina and I are going on vacation starting Monday. I’m not entirely sure how often I’ll be able to get to the Peeper Dees, so plan on some sporadic publishing.

It’s our annual trip with my brothers-in-law to Carbondale, IL.

If you want to hold out for a few days, great.

Otherwise, don’t be too disappointed. 🙂

I’ll fill in more details.

Worth a read: @IJasonAlexander Long Tweet on Colorado Shooting and gun control

English: American actor Jason Alexander

I’m not going to make too much commentary on this TwitLonger from Jason Alexander.

It’s worth a read (or two).

One standout (long) bit:

These people believe that the US government is eventually going to go street by street and enslave our citizens. Now as long as that is only happening to liberals, homosexuals and democrats – no problem. But if they try it with anyone else – it’s going to be arms-ageddon and these committed, God-fearing, brave souls will then use their military-esque arsenal to show the forces of our corrupt government whats-what. These people think they meet the definition of a “militia”. They don’t. At least not the constitutional one. And, if it should actually come to such an unthinkable reality, these people believe they would win. That’s why they have to “take our country back”. From who? From anyone who doesn’t think like them or see the world like them. They hold the only truth, everyone else is dangerous. Ever meet a terrorist that doesn’t believe that? Just asking.

Then there are the folks who write that if everyone in Colorado had a weapon, this maniac would have been stopped. Perhaps. But I do believe that the element of surprise, tear gas and head to toe kevlar protection might have given him a distinct edge. Not only that, but a crowd of people firing away in a chaotic arena without training or planning – I tend to think that scenario could produce even more victims.

Lastly, there are these well-intended realists that say that people like this evil animal would get these weapons even if we regulated them. And they may be right. But he wouldn’t have strolled down the road to Kmart and picked them up. Regulated, he would have had to go to illegal sources – sources that could possibly be traced, watched, overseen. Or he would have to go deeper online and those transactions could be monitored. “Hm, some guy in Aurora is buying guns, tons of ammo and kevlar – plus bomb-making ingredients and tear gas. Maybe we should check that out.”
